DAY 10
TGV AVIGNON TO PARIS
OVERNIGHT IN PARIS
We take the TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) from Avignon to Paris. Watch the French countryside go by at speeds of up to 175 miles an hour. The 463-mile TGV ride to Paris takes only 2 hours 38 minutes.
(You will have to take your luggage to and from the train. We recommend you travel with luggage with good wheels.)
The Meliá Vendôme Hotel is located in the prestigious quarter of the Ópera and the Place de la Vendôme, just one short block off the famous Rue de Rivoli to the left and the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré to the right. The Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré is cited as one of the most fashionable streets in the world, thanks to the presence of virtually every major global fashion house.
Designer Michael Kors says, “The walk from Hermès to Colette is the ultimate fashion walk. Hermès is the bastion of fashion elegance, and Colette is the trendiest spot in Paris, and Michael Kors, well, it’s perfect for us to be in the middle, because I’m not the trendiest and I’m not the most classic. I’m a blend of the two things.”

Those with a sweet tooth are in for a treat. Just half a block from our hotel on Rue Cambon, renowned chocolatier Pierre Hermé recently opened a shop, which you will be hard pressed to pass without popping in to buy some of his famous macarons, to eat on the spot or take home.
Nearby at the Village Royal shopping street (12 cité Berryer) is one of the boutiques of "Chocolate Artist" Patrick Roger, named "Best French Chocolatier" in 2000, renowned for his "excellence, imagination, creativity." He introduced the mixing in chocolate of unusual ingredients such as chili, basil, lemongrass and lime, of course using only the best ingredients from around the world.
The Meliá Vendôme Hotel is also just around the corner from the largest and most important square of Paris, the Place de la Concorde, which is strategically situated between the Tuileries Garden and the Champs Elysées.
The hotel is just a short walk across the Tuileries Garden from both the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée de L'Orangerie.
