Of all the oases along the Côte d'Azur, none has the snob appeal of St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, which has been labeled "Paradise Found." It is a nine-mile promontory sprinkled with luxurious villas and outlined by sheltered bays, beaches and coves with lush vegetation.

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild affords the chance to visit one of the most legendary villas. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century by the Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild on one of the most beautiful sites on the Riviera.
Born in 1864, Béatrice was the daughter of the banker and major art collector Baron Alphonse de Rothschild. As a member of the prominent Rothschild banking family, she was a friend of dealers and art experts. She filled her villa with signed pieces of furniture, Aubusson and Savonnerie carpets, paintings by Boucher and Lancret, drawings and sketches by Fragonard, Gobelins tapestries, Sèvres porcelain, as well as medieval and renaissance works of art and objects from the Far East.
Surrounding the villa are seven gardens, each with a special theme: ancient stone monuments, exotic countries, Spain, Florence, Japan, Provence and French style.
When the widowed Baroness died in 1934, she bequeathed the building, its magnificent gardens, and her fabulous collection of 5,000 works of art to the Académie de Beaux-Arts.

Enjoy lunch in Nice at one of the many bistros and restaurants in the Vieille Ville (Old Town), where flower vendors display beautiful bouquets in their stalls at the Marché aux Fleurs on Cours Saleya. Then stroll on the Boulevard des Anglais along the seaside.
